06.01.2016 | The Toulouse School of Economics, chaired by the Professor Jean Tirol (2014 Nobel Laureate) is as one of the leading schools of economics in the world. According to REPEC, in March 2014 it was ranked as the 11th most productive research department of economics in the world, and the 3rd in Europe. The Digital Chair Jean-Jacques Laffont was launched in February 2015 to promote research on the impact of digital technology – in areas such as industrial organization, competition policy, education, finance, culture or health. Within this initiative, the Toulouse School of Economics organizes a workshop to discuss the challenges and opportunities provided by new digital technology in the book industry.

At the workshop, All Brain‘s founder and managing partner, Marcello Vena presents the latest findings on the digital book economy in a seminar called Dispelling the myth of the long tail. One decade after the Long Tail theory was originally concieved, the world wide web has left it’s infancy and has entered it’s adult stage. It is 22 years now. It is about time to do a reality check and challenge such sound, fascinating and very popular theory that has not been proved true yet from a scientific standpoint (at least in the digital book business). Thought provoking and intellectually challenging, this presentation will show the audience how and why to stay away from the conventional wisdom about the Long Tail in the digital book business.

The workshop takes place on January 6th, from 12.30pm till 8.00pm in the S Building by the Toulouse School of Economics (S Building) 21 Allée de Brienne, 31015 Toulouse
